stories from the road...
What a great day pat ( Godfather) shows up on his 1967 triumph to see us off to the Dog House Saloon in Fayetteville he said he could not ride he was already in the dog house at home. So away we went 3 bikes 5 cruisers. Rolled into the dog house at high noon good service food was good. We rolled back into Wilmington and hit the harp and said our goodbyes 190 miles and 5 big smiles. Thanks Sparkdog for the great job tailguning.

Ride Report: Ruddy Duck Tavern – Morehead City, NC (5/27/17)
7 bikes and 10 riders joined us on this absolutely gorgeous day of riding racking up 237 miles and lots of smiles! Following our pre-ride safety briefing, we headed north on NC132 to Hwy 210 and up Shaw Hwy to Old Maple Hill Road (OMH). A few spirited Cruisers decided to break from the group to enjoy the freedom of running OMH on their own terms with the rest of us taking a more brisk but leisurely pace. We then headed in the direction of J-Ville via Hwy 53 and Hwy 258 where we met up with a few more peeps at the Which Wich (Comfort stop) in Richlands. Tracey’s friend, Michele joined us too and away we rode taking a variety of back roads. I was leading this ride on a wing and a prayer with several ad-lib adjustments (and U-turns) along the way making the ride interesting to say the least. Ha We finally popped out onto 17 just before Swansboro working our way north. Our intended destination was originally Rucker John’s in Emerald Isle; however, when we arrived at 17 & 58, we noticed that the bridge over to Emerald Isle was backed up with holiday weekend traffic all the way to 17 so we changed to “Plan B”. We continued north another 20 minutes and ended up at one of our favorite places, the Ruddy Duck Tavern in Morehead City, NC. Service, food and company was awesome with some going out to enjoy the dock following lunch and our very own Irishman breaking out in song as we left. LOL We decided to return a little different than normal and traveled some of the roads in reverse, which proved to be a different experience and left a few Cruisers wondering where the heck we were. Michele must have been really relaxed on the ride back since she fell asleep on the back of my bike and bumped helmets. She is like the sixth woman to fall asleep on the back of my bike so I am starting to wonder…am I really that boring? Don’t answer that! Ha ha We all ended up back at the Which Wich to drop off a few peeps and say our goodbyes. The rest then continued to New River Harley so Perry could ask their Service Dept. a quick question and then pointed our bikes south and headed to Wilmington. It was a beautiful day to ride with friends and thanks to all for joining us on our ride. Special thanks to Travis who performed flawlessly as our Tail Gunner and to my favorite Bike Ho (Deb - Road Queen), who jumped on no less than 5 different bikes (Bob, Travis, Perry, Tom & Phil) during our ride…I am thinking she was trying to break a record for sure. LOL Ride safe and often with awesome friends… Changing the name from Powder Puff ride to the Magnificent Seven.
Preacher, Bill and Eileen, Ray and Bridgette, Richard (Captain), and myself left the Roo at 10:00 a.m. Headed up 117 to Old River Road in Rocky Point, took our time and enjoyed the sights. We then travelled on 53 to 50. Took a break and then went on our merry way. Had lunch at Rick's and it was very good and inexpensive! When we came out from eating, my bike was completely dead and I kept fiddling with it and it finally started and we were off again. Went into Surf City to enjoy the cooler weather coming off the waterway but we were soon backed up in traffic for a few minutes. We stopped at BoJangles on 17 to say our goodbyes. Thanks to all who came out and special thanks to Preacher for tail gunning! We had 13 bikes and 11 people with one being a guest all the way from Wisconsin who was riding a familiar green bike and I must say she made it look way better. We then hit some good back roads and stopped in supply for a comfort stop when a black caddy rolled up...it's Shivers, Christine and his mama rolling to Myrtle Beach for lunch. Speaking of lunch, we rolled to Wing and Fish in Shallotte. Good food and service with my only gripe was that they packed us in a corner when there was plenty of room to spread out.
After lunch we headed to Beach House Harley-Davidson in Shallotte. Bought a few things and thanks Ice Princess for letting me cut in line cuz everyone wanted 15 dollar t-shirts. Ok enough shopping, let's ride so we headed back towards Wilmywood. When Sparky says over radio, "Dairy Queen" (DQ) so we roll into the DQ and before we get off our bikes a fellow biker (Vice President of the Guardian Angles) says...who has bike knowledge? I pointed to Phil so we strolled over with the tool bag and had the bike running in about 15 min. Then the guy asked to use my phone to call his wife who went after the trailer. Say what...2017 and you don't have a cell phone? It's all good...we helped and that's what this club is about family. We rolled on and I had one more stop in mind at The Harp for refreshment and Pistol Pete loved his chocolate cake. The pineapple upside down cake was awesome too, as always. We traveled a total of 103 miles on this day but it was all about the smiles. Road Queen thanks for the great job tailguning and everyone who came out to ride. The Professor 2nd Officer We had our first Sunday of the month ride yesterday, we gathered at the roo had the preride and then took off. We went 117 to Rockey Point went over and took Shaw HWY. Then Old Maple Hill, picked up the J'ville crowd and headed out to Flipperz. We have been there before and will again. Good food and friends for a Sunday ride. We ended up with a total of 170 miles and had a blast as usual when riding.
Thanks for the TG Queenie job well done couldn't have done it without ya', and thanks to Travis "The Professor" for the eval. We'll see.. Until next time folks. Mike "DaBoy" RCIT We had 10 riders leave Murrayville and soon encountered some cloudy skies and cool temps. What happened to the fair skies? We traveled up to Beaulaville and were joined by 3 J-Actionville crazies. We had encountered a sprinkle or two and some put on their rain suits. However, we did not see any more rain up to Kinston. We were able to locate some parking across from the police department (keeping their eyes on us??) and proceeded to the festival. It was reported that they would have over 20,000 in attendance on Saturday, but it was not too crowded. I sampled some Mother Earth beverages and Dottie and I had some BBQ. We then strolled thru the festival and checked out the vintage cars. Too soon, it was time to meet back up for the return trip.
Our Road Captain missed a turn and all of the group except for 3 got the opportunity to execute a 3 point turn! We said our goodbyes at Richlands and then took some back roads over to Maple Hill. A few tested their skills on Old Maple Hill and the rest of us putted down without incident. The group divided at the end of Shaw Highway, with several heading over to Hampstead for a libation and the rest heading for home. A total of 181 miles for the day. Thanks to Road Queen for tail gunning and everyone for coming out for the ride. Charles Road Captain |
