We traveled up to Burgaw via Little Kelly Road and Highsmith Roads - both favorites from the old days. Little Kelly has gotten pretty rough with various bumps and heaves, possibly due to weather over the past couple of years. We got on Penderlea Highway and someone suggested that one of our riders might be interested in staying at the local prison camp on the radio! i missed a turn, but took the next right and wound up ok and on to Watha. We made our obligatory stop at the country store in Willard and continued on to Harrells.
We just missed the parade (that is a good thing) and parked near the fire department. We hit the chow line and all but one of us enjoyed our pork BBQ. Some of us checked out the car show (sorry, Paul - no Mopars). The big attraction of the day was the lawn mower tractor pull competition. It started out with machines that looked like tractor mowers, but did not sound like them. They pulled an amazing amount of weight and several had blown motors. We delayed long enough to see the big boys with their V-8s - none of these machines have ever cut grass! Amazing.
I went over and listened to the Bluegrass and the group was pretty good, but our group liked the tractor pull best. We pulled out and headed back via 421. We stopped at Eagle Island market for some ice cream - it appeared that everyone got mint chocolate chip.
Thanks to Paul, Toby, Deb, Preacher, RePete for joining me and the Professor for Tailgunning. We got a lot of smiles per gallon on this ride - 102 miles total.
