stories from the road...
What a great day for a ride 9 bikes 9 riders and might I add 7 were flying their wings! Preacher showed up ready and said he had a mystery of his own so I told him lead on and what fine mysterious roads we rode. Through Ivanhoe, Turkey and every where in between. I took over in Harrells and lead us to Clinton to Southern Style BBQ. A very mysterious place you drive thru, order, park and eat or walk in to little building order walk across parking lot to separate dinning room. I totally enjoyed it. We saddled up to head back and Curb said he had a good idea for going back so away we went. Some days when you have nothing set in stone are the best days. It was great to have T-Bone back and was very happy to see Steve"The Meadows " Rhodes, next time bring Donna too. Road Queen awesome job of Tailgunning for all 3 road captains. Lots of smiles and 156 miles .

We had 14 Cruisers show up for our ride today. Temps were a little cool, but we were hoping for better things later. We departed via I40 and the new I140 (be careful of the uneven pavement when you get on I140). We rode with out incident, except for my radio messing up. I could hear everyone, but they only heard that I was keying the mic. Thanks to TJ and Travis for relaying hand signals back to the group. Deb was tailgunning and pretty much anticipated every move we wanted to make. After a break in Supply and work on my radio, I was hoping for better things, but the radio kept messing up. We rolled on in to North Myrtle Beach and except for me missing the turn and having to make a U turn, we made it to Boardwalk Billys without issue. We parked in the back with a view of the boats in dock and proceeded to enjoy lunch. I did not hear of anyone that was unhappy with the food and the service was very quick for a group our size. They will be on our list for future visits to NMB. We had been there for a while when a large contingent of Southern Cruisers from the local chapter came in to join us. It was great to see everyone - they had over half their membership at the lunch. I had another surprise when my buddy Herbie and his girlfriend Jana came over from their place to visit with us. Herbie and I went from 1st grade to 12th together.
After a group photo with the other chapter, we departed by back roads back toward home via Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle, Shallote, etc. My radio completely crapped the bed so that I could not hear either, so we were doing this thing old school. After some cool roads, we stopped near Supply for a rest stop and to watch TJ and the Professor work over a banana split. We headed back and the group split up at the I140 interchange. Total miles for the day - 161. Thanks to Road Queen for tailgunning. It was a good day, Tater! Charles Lawhon Road Captain - Port City 162 The day started chilly as most days recently but we had 5 bikes and 6 riders at the Shell for the Pre-Ride Briefing. We rolled up I40 to I140 to HWY 17 south to our 1st comfort stop @ the Circle K in Supply. As we were a few minutes ahead, we extended our stay. There was a discussion about changing our destination to Shorty's Grill instead of the American Sub Shop. The only decision we could come up was to split up the group for lunch. We saddled up and headed down HWY 17 to HWY 130 and then down several back roads. Destiny must of stepped in when we reach Loris SC because I rolled right by the American Sub shop and brought the group to Shorty's Grill. The group decided to stay together and food was good. Since there is an Ice Cream Shop right next to the Grill, Preacher and Travis just had to have some sweet dessert! The sun came out and the temp shot up which turned the day into one wonderful day for a ride. We left Loris and down some more back roads to our last comfort stop. We all decided that the back roads I found were little more than goat paths (Rough with a lot of Pot Holes). I am not looking forward to riding them anytime soon. When you are looking for good roads to ride, some days you just strike out. Sorry Guys ! The group jumped on HWY 74 east and before we went our separate ways, we stopped in to see a Cruiser that we had not seen in a bit, Mike "DaBoy" McGlauflin. He seemed happy to see the group even though we only hung out for a few minutes. We said our goodbyes and we each headed home. I had a great ride and I hope everyone who came along did as well.
185 Miles for the day and many smiles. (Can't Help but smile when you have Ice Cream !) Thanks to everyone who joined the ride and a Special Thanks to Deb for Tail Gunning. until the next ride! TJ "Safety Cone" SCRC PC-162 RC The day started a bit chilly but we had 8 bikes and 10 riders at the Shell for the Pre-Ride Briefing. Everyone was happy to see that Dottie join us as it has been some time since she rode with the group. After correcting some communication issues, we rolled up HWY 117 to Hwy 41 to our 1st comfort stop @ the Exxon in Wallace. The group took a few minutes stretch their legs and warm up before we all saddled back up and headed down HWY 41 to HWY 50 and over to Cypress Creek Road. There must have been some kind of tournament going on because parked along both sides of the road were Hunters and their dogs. We had to slow down for several miles as we navigated through the chaos. Curb, Pam and I got a quick view of a lone Deer skipping across the road in front of us! Later, I would hear from some of the other members that they saw some deer in the fields. Lucky for them, Deer Season ended a few weeks ago. We would reach our destination without any further delay. The food was great and everyone seemed pleased. The temperature took a nose dive while we were eating so we saddled up quickly and headed for Wilmington via HWY 17. Most of us stopped in at Harley Davidson of Jacksonville while some folks continued on as they had things to do. We said our goodbyes as this would be our last stop. We turned south and headed home. It turned out to be a nice ride.
133 Miles for the day and many smiles. Thanks to everyone who joined the ride and a Special Thanks to Deb for Tail Gunning and Curb for evaluating. until the next ride! TJ "Safety Cone" SCRC PC-162 TG/RCIT |
