We took Hwy 50 along with some curvy roads to Hwy 258, then some additional curvy roads until we linked up with Hwy 41, connecting us to Hwy 70 (where we got a chance to incorporate the "I wanna go fast" quote from Ricky Bobby in Talladega Nights) which eventually lead to Hwy 17 and downtown New Bern where the restaurant is located. We were in the midst of being seated when Big Don and Sylvia (from Panther Creek chapter out of Beulaville) came strolling in with big ol' smiles, which caused us to smile even bigger! It was great to chat with them; the good news, he is on the mend and getting stronger! We had to eat at the bar due to the wait, and after some shifting around we had plenty of room, it was just a challenge to converse, except for Flip-Flop of course who was floating around the bar like a social butterfly cackling away! I think everyone ordered some type of burger (Flip-Flop in form of hamburger salad) and everyone's must have been as delicious as mine, because once the food arrived, the conversations ceased due to everyone stuffing their gullet! LOL. The bacon seemed to be the favorite item on several people’s plates! We were tempted to sample dessert, but we were too full from our meals.
We chatted a while after our meal, before we wished Don and Sylvia continued success, and saddled up bound for Holly Ridge via Brice’s Creek Rd, and Hwy 17. We bumped into a friend of Jen, Dave, who joined us on the return trip, as we departed with six (6) bikes and six (6) riders. We (or at least I was) tempted to stop off for some ice-cream in Maysville, but decided to keep on rolling – maybe next time! We arrived in Holly Ridge where we refueled with some Icee drinks, and chit-chatted some more before Stone-zz and Godfather departed headed South on Hwy 17, as Jen and Dave stayed local, while Flip-Flop and I headed North.
In total, we had a great day, enjoying the weather, some curvy roads, and good food with great friends. We traveled 186 miles, with the potential of a new member in the form of Dave – we will have to wait and see if we scared him off with all the gabbing! Until next time, keep riding, and keep smiling.
