stories from the road...
Nice weather for a ride as 2 bikes 3 riders rolled out at 10am. Took MLK to 17 rolled down to supply where we picked up Shivers. We continued down 17 to Beach House Harley Davidson for the Annual Toy Run. I would say 350 to 400 bikes were out showing their support. We left Harley and went through downtown Shallotte to jump on some back roads that took us through Sunset Beach and Calabash before returning to the Dealership. After the ride ended, the four of us went to The Patio in Little River, SC. The service was fast and the food was great. Beautiful weather for a ride. We rolled back into Wilmington with 131 Miles and Smiles.

It was barley 40 degrees at 9 am when 9 bikes 10 riders rolled out of the Exxon on N. College Rd. We headed to New Bern Harley Davidson to join the Toy Run to the Kennedy Children's Home in Kinston. We took College to Market and followed HWY 17 north. Comfort stop on the far side of Jacksonville we arrived in New Bern around 11am. While lining up we were able to chat with some old friends and made some new ones. We ran into the Goldsboro chapter again. It was great to see them once again. It was a really nice ride. We hit an old favorite for Lunch, Morgan's for lunch. We rolled back into Wilmington just before dusk with 278 miles and a lot of smiles for the day . Special Thanks to Preacher for leading and I jumped in as Tailgunner.
The Professor 1st Officer We had myself and 6 of my boys - Charles, Travis, Preacher, Pistol Pete, Paul (Yes Sir), and the Godfather Pat. We left promptly at 10 and headed towards Shallotte and I actually knew the way. Almost missed the turn for Cherry Bomb but my little Boy saved me. Traversed down Cherry Bomb (a little too slow for Travis but he enjoyed the scenery) and came out on 17. Did a comfort stop in Supply and then headed on our way again. My Little Angel that was guiding me, gave me a wrong turn and we sort of back tracked a little bit. I think the Angel was trying to get extra miles.LOL We finally made it to Wing and Fish and everyone ordered. My food came and I bit into my Shrimp Burger and said hmmm the shrimp is undercooked, let me try another bite. It turned out to be oysters! YUCK! So I complained to the waitress while the boys ate the oysters. Dottie we have to talk soon.LOL I finally got some shrimp and we ate and went to the bikes. OH NO, Paul's bike won't start. Travis, Paul and I went to Advance Auto (or something similar) where he bought a new battery. Then we headed home. The moral of this story is: CRUISERS RULE! We all worked together today as a family and everything worked out just fine. Thanks to Preacher for tailing, Charles for being the mechanic in training 2, and of course, my little boy Travis who helped me not get lost. Rode 137 miles today.
Deb "RoadQueen" Hobbs TG/Port City - 162 6 bikes and 7 Cruisers were out today for a nice ride through the farmlands of Southeastern NC. Professor, rePete, Gwynn, Cakeman & Sweetie-Pie, Slingshot and Road Queen were in attendance. The weather overnite from Friday into Saturday was friggin' cold , but it warmed quickly prior to our 10am departure time -low 60's- which was a welcome relief after last Saturday's chiller.
I led the group to Turkey NC using as many secondary roads up into Pender County, Duplin , and Sampson counties. We went "one-up" on many of these roads and just cruised and took in the views. There were some radio issues and dead-end signs that needed our patience and flexibility, but we made it into the Warsaw/Turkey Smithfield's Chicken and BBQ on Route 24 after approximately 80 miles. Excellent food and service! After lunch we straightened out radio issues and hit the road. Union School Road is a great motorcycle road that connects 24 to 421. We cruised via 421, 11, and 117 into Burgaw, where Cakeman suggested we stop at the Antiques Shop for fudge. The place is cool! Go There! We finished up the ride via 117 back into Wilmington and everyone went there separate ways. 154 miles on the day! 'Til the Next Ride, rePete RC- PC162 Cool & Sunny conditions greeted us as we met @ the Roo. Chowsky put in an appearance early to provide 10% off coupons, but refused to ride. We rolled out at 10:00 sharp with 8 bikes and 9 riders. Took a comfort stop in Whiteville and then some pretty back roads down to Little River. Swing Bridge had the table set for us, the sign said "Pizza" and that is what most of us had. After lunch we pulled in for quick gas 'n go, before stopping at the Calabash Creamery for a tasty treat. Our farewell stop was at the Circle K just before Leland.
We arrived at home with 164 miles and a lot of Smiles! Thanks for everyone who came out and braved the chilly start. Jerry "Preacher " Lipka RC Port City - 162 It was a beautiful day to ride with only a slight chill in the air. We left the Roo with 12 Bikes and 13 Riders. We proceeded up & Thru Hampstead following HWY 210 into Topsail Beach. A quick turn off on 172 to Hwy 17 and we found ourselves following HWY 50 . The group decided on a quick comfort stop in Maple Hill @ the corner of Hwy 50 & Haws Run Rd. The next stop would be our Destination but along the way one of Bikes went down. In normal Cruiser Fashion, everyone pitched in to check on the Rider, divert traffic, and get the Bike up and moved to a safer location. Thank God that the Rider only suffered some bumps and bruises. John Cain volunteered to stay with the Rider as he waited on a Flatbed to transport his bike home. Two other riders decided they were ready to head home but the remaining group moved on to HWY 55 in Wallace for good food with good friends. We still had a few more roads to ride but as it was late in the day and the group wanted to head home so back on Hwy 117 to Wilmington. We ended the ride with 142 miles worth of Memories. Thanks for everyone who rode today.
Special Thanks to Deb Hobbs for Tail Gunning and John Cain for staying with our Downed Rider. Until the next Ride. Paul "Curb" Farrow 2nd Officer Port City - 162 |
