We headed through Castle Hayne and out towards Burgaw on 117 until we picked up Old River Rd. to do some back roads that let out on 53. 53 was very congested with heavy machinery that was cleaning up the debris left from Hurricane Florence. We carefully negotiated the hazards and eventually buzzed pat the old location of Holland Shelter Restaurant. GONE... weird.
The busted a ralph and headed down Shaw Hwy to pick up Old Maple Hill Road. Nice cruise though the curvy shadows with no incidents. Making a right on 50, we followed 50 and Haw Run Rd out toward Jville before popping back out on 53 and making a pitstop at Handee Hugo. After soaking up some sun to warm up a bit, we saddled back up and rolled into Cook Out ON SOUTH MARINE BLVD. in Jville in short order. It was lunch time, so the line was out the door. Crazy busy, but the food was fresh and hot and everyone enjoyed the grub!
After lunch another short jaunt to Lejuene MotorSports. The crew browsed around and dreaming of ownership of several different TOYS including: Can Am dune buggies (23K), a very new but slightly used Street Glide (1000 miles)- Scotty, Kawasawki Concourse-Gwynn, and M109R -rePete. Everyone had their eye on something.
After rePete purchased some bargain bin gloves, the group got ready to head back to ILM. Preacher had a previous engagement, so he left the group to head directly to Wilmington. The rest retraced our tire tracks back to 53, Haw Run Rd., 50, and another run at Old Maple Hill (without incident.... close, but no incident. "Shorty's Curve" wants to take unsuspecting riders, so BEWARE!) We made a left and followed Shaw Hwy to 210 to Holly Shelter into Castle Hayne where we stopped at the Kangaroo to say our goodbyes and Deb could get all of her hugs!
Overall, 125 miles on the day! Thanks to Scotty for Tailgunning! He is doing a great job! Thanks for following me today Cruisers!
'Til the next Ride...
