We jammed west on 74/76 to the SunDo in Boardman. It was nice and cool! First rest stop and a chance to properly say hello to Jerry! We hit the head and then took off again. We turned off on 144 in Laurel Hill to hit up the country roads that connect with US 1 by The Rock. This is a fun little cruise on some windy roads. I made a left turn too soon at one point and we needed to turn around when the road turned to gravel, but otherwise we got to The Rock at about 9:15am without any major issues.
When we got into the back entrance, there were trailers and haulers lined up to get in. We started to get a little fired up when we were waiting in line behind a Go Green Go Road Runner on a trailer! We realized we were in the racer registration line, and pulled up to the other side of the admissions booth when we saw others doing the same. $20 and sign the liability waiver and we were in! We found a parking spot behind the grandstands and terlets and dropped the kickstand.
Paw, Jerry and I walked around, looked at cars, watched cars race, talked about cars and got out of the sun under an umbrella table when we got hot. Then we looked at more cars, took pictures of cars and watched cars race some more and then got out of the sun again and rehydrated. Then... well, you get the point. The Jet Dragster was AWWWWESOME!! (video coming soon). Around 3:30pm we saddled up and fried our gibbly bits on our seats! YIKES!! HELLoooo! The bike temp gauge read 107 or Medium Rare.
Fun country back roads down into Laurel Hill for gas and a refreshment and then 74 East. We cranked it up and got into Boardman and the SunDo so I could get gas and we could say our final goodbyes. As we got into Delco the sky ahead of us was dark, dark, dark gray. I motioned for Paw to pull up beside me and asked if he wanted to stop and put on rain gear?? He shook his head no. Then he beeped at me and motioned "Do you?" I shook my head no. As the droplets started to fall Jerry pulled off on 140.
Paw and I continued into Leland and the rain slowly got harder and harder until it was sheets of rain and flooding roads. It felt good after baking all day in the sun, but it was a bit much after a minute. Well... we are already wet, so let's keep rolling... we're almost home. Ya know what is the worst thing about riding in the rain? THE PEOPLE IN CARS! It's waaa-terrrr, let's GO! We caught the light at Shipyard and I asked Paw "how are ya?" He said... "wet!" I pulled off at Silva Terra and Paw continued home.
We got 269 miles for the day and had a ton of fun!
'Til the Next Ride...
