We traveled 69 miles on this day via 132 to MLK to 421 then 74/76 exiting at 133. We enjoyed some of our favorite back roads riding through Leland, Belville and Boiling Spring Lakes, where we pulled into a comfort stop at one of the gas/service stations owned by the Boswell family and where Shorty also worked. My mind was filled with thoughts and fond memories of Shorty on this day and I imagined him working at the garage doing what he loved so much…fixing things and making them work.
After the break, we continued on our way heading back up 87 towards 17 then riding through back roads where we arrived at Phyllis’ home in Leland for a celebration of Shorty’s life. This is where we were joined by 3 additional bikes/riders too. Wow is that Bubba sporting a new ride? Yup, he is now the proud owner of a Harley V-Rod. ..Congrat’s Bubba and I am sure you are glad to be back on 2 wheels! Rut Roh…is that Spike cooking on the grill? Yikes!
Members spent the afternoon exchanging Shorty stories and remembering a great man who was more than just a friend…he was our brother and family! Thank you so very much Phyllis for opening your home and heart up to all of us and having a wonderful celebration complete with a variety of food and drinks to commemorate this day, which will be forever engrained in our hearts and minds as the day we lost a legend within Port City 162. We love you Shorty!
Thanks to Travis “Professor” for protecting our backsides as Tail Gunner, to Phyllis for hosting the event within her home and to Spike along with all who joined us on our Shorty Memorial Day Ride!
Till we ride again…
